Mardi Gras

February 16, 2021
Yearly Date: varies

Capt’n Clean (my husband) was born and grew up in New Orleans. In fact, he was born on Mardi Gras! His mother is no longer with us, but before she passed, she told the story about how she was riding in the back of a truck in a Mardi Gras parade when Capt’n Clean let her know he wanted to see what was going on. They had the other riders evacuate the truck and she was hurried to the hospital just in time for Capt’n Clean to make a huge Mardi Gras TA DA!

Needless to say, we really LOVE this holiday!

Regardless of my husband’s birth, Mardi Gras is one of the best celebrations in the world. It stretches from Twelfth Night (the last day of Christmas) to Ash Wednesday. The term “Mardi Gras” is French for “Fat Tuesday” and it is celebrated by eating tons of rich, fattening food before the fasting time of Lent.

Of course, NOLA is the place to be if you want to celebrate in style. Parades, fireworks, colorful costumes, incredible music and lots and lots of food are part of festivities. It’s a great time to let your hair down and be downright goofy! Woo hoo!

Happy Mardi Gras! Yay Capt’n Clean!

Quote for the Day

“An American has not seen the United States until he has seen Mardi-Gras in New Orleans.”

Mark Twain
