Presidents Day

February 15, 2021
Yearly Date: Third Monday in February

Okay, you have to admit, there have been some great presidents that have lead the United States. Of course, there have been some so-so dude in the prestigious position, as well as some outright creeps that should never have been elected. The beauty of the US Constitution is that the country has been able to keep going despite the creeps.

So this is the day that we celebrate all of the guys that have led our nation. In 1971 the government decided that there should be more 3-day weekends in the winter time, so they created Presidents Day. Before this time Lincoln and Washington’s birthday were celebrated, so they split the differences between the two dates (February 14th and February 22nd) and called the holiday Presidents Day.

Here’s a few facts I’ll bet you didn’t know about our presidents:

3 – The number of universities named after George Washington

5 – The number of National parks named after Roosevelt

6’3½” – President Lincoln’s height, making him the tallest President ever.

4 – The number of American Presidents with a February birthday

32 – The number of days after becoming president that William Henry Harrison passed away

5’3″ – President James Madison’s height, making him the shortest President ever.

42 – Age of the youngest person to assume the presidency. Theodore Roosevelt, at the age of 42, succeeded to the office after the assassination of William McKinley. The youngest to become president by election was John F. Kennedy, who was inaugurated at age 43.

2006 – The year a Grammy Award was given to Barack Obama for his voiceover on the audiobook ‘Dreams From My Father.’ Obama also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.

Presidents Day is also known as a great day to buy furniture and appliances as well as celebrate the lives of some incredible men that have led the United States!

Quote for the Day

“As powerful as our memories are, our dreams must be even stronger. For when our memories outweigh our dreams, we become old.”

Barack Obama
